Sen. Hawley Spoke Up for the Rule of Law — Now It’s Time to Back It Up
“To defy the courts… that was lawless. That was wrong.”
— Senator Josh Hawley
Senator Hawley recently made clear that the executive branch cannot ignore the courts. Respecting constitutional checks and balances is essential — no matter who’s in the White House. Now, the people of Missouri need him to bring that same resolve to the unchecked executive power harming the state’s economy.
Authorized by the Trump administration, the Department of Government Efficiency has put thousands of Missourians at risk of losing their jobs. These jobs aren’t abstract numbers, they are personnel supporting U.S. military logistics at Fort Leonard and Scott Air Force Base; they are engineers and data analysts strengthening national security at the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency; they are our neighbors and taxpayers who are vital to ensuring the stability of Missouri’s economy.
And yet, these cuts are being made behind closed doors — without clear justification, debate, or votes.
Congress — not the executive — holds the power of the purse under Article I of the Constitution.

Senator Hawley knows what happens when executive power goes unchecked. He’s warned about it before, but we’re past warnings now. We call on him to reaffirm congressional constitutional authority under Article I, to uphold the rule of law, protect our institutions, and keep power where it belongs — in a government of, by, and for the people.
